With the help from the TET and TSB and the members financing the deposit, the branch Line was purchased in the year 2001, from TranzRail at a cost of $360,000.ºº
2003, Was when the Society started carrying fare paying passengers.
2004 The Tahora Station building was sited at Brixton, Waitara Road.
From end of May to start of daylight saving, the Branch Line is closed for Winter maintenance.
The Society operates their excursion the First and Third Sundays of the month, during the “Daylight saving” months.
Trips available subject to requests and availability of the Branch Line.
Excursion times;- 11:00 am, 01:00 pm and 02:15 pm.
Board the train at Waitara, beside the New World Supermarket on Ogle and Queen Streets.
Travel on the Waitara Branch Line which was opened in 1875. Part of the first Railway in Taranaki between Waitara and New Plymouth.
The train Travels under the road bridge top of Big Jim's Hill, on Highway 3, which we say is our tunnel.
At our Waitara Raod Yards we travel through our yards where the “The Former Tahora Station” is sited.
On the way to Lepperton one will see an old house, just over Kairau Road, which was once used as a maternity home about the late 1800s.
Train on the return stops at Brixton at the “The Former Tahora Station” for hot or cold drinks.
Our Fares;- Adults $12.00
Child 14 years and under $6.00
Family $30.00.
Groups of 30 Persons, $180.00, Extra person/s @ 6.00 per head extra . Up to a maximum of 60 persons.

The Society has working bees Saturdays and Wednesdays, which usually starts about 08:30am.
To get to the yard, drive up Waitara Road off the main road and when one reaches the railway line they turn right into through the gate which, is over the railway line.
Be mindful of rail vehicles that may be operating.
